7th Sunday after Epiphany - The Reverend Geoffrey Chapman

Monday, February 24th, 2014

"Love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you."

How often do we preach this familiar and challenging gospel passage to other people, "You should love your enemies," and yet are so often blinded to our own feelings and actions?

Reverend Geoff draws upon his own experiences, frustrations and failures in this sermon about loving our enemies.

6th Sunday after Epiphany 2014 - The Reverend Geoffrey Chapman

Monday, February 17th, 2014

In this sermon, Reverend Geoff struggles to reconcile passages such as this week's excerpt from the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew, with Paul's gospel message to the Gentiles. Reverend Geoff asks whether Christians today are surrounded by "New Gentiles," and what might it look like to bring the gospel to them in the same manner as Paul's ministry? Paul brought a fundamentally Jewish gospel into a Gentile world, abandoning almost every custom and tradition for the sake of God's love found through Jesus Christ. Are we prepared to make the same sacrifices Paul himself made? What might that look like?

4th Sunday after Epiphany 2014 - The Reverend Geoffrey Chapman

Monday, February 3rd, 2014

This is a sermon about the gift of waiting. Anna and Simeon both waited in the Temple their whole lives to encounter Jesus. What does it mean in our world where so many things we desire can be purchased, shipped and consumed instantly - to embrace the gift of waiting. And can not just that for which we wait, but waiting itself, change and enlighten us?
