Third Sunday in Advent 2014 - The Reverend Geoffrey Chapman

Wednesday, December 17th, 2014

This is a sermon about Mary. Mary declares that her soul magnifies the Lord. What does this truly mean? Do we fully honour her as a mother and a woman, and the power she was given by God to be the Mother of God?

2nd Sunday in Advent 2014 - The Reverend Geoffrey Chapman

Monday, December 8th, 2014

A voice cries out: "In the wilderness prepare the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God."  Isaiah 40:3

As it is written in the prophet Isaiah, "See, I am sending my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way; the voice of one crying out in the wilderness: 'Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.'"  Mark 1:2-3

This sermon is about God calling us in the wilderness - both the literal wilderness, and the wilderness of our every day lives.

First Sunday in Advent 2014 - The Reverend Geoffrey Chapman

Monday, December 1st, 2014

Advent is a season where we are called to embrace the darkness - the darkness of unknowing, the darkness of the wilderness. For some of us, this is a welcome journey. For others, the cold and darkness of living in Canada is enough. This is a sermon about the challenge of embracing the darkness of a penitential season along with the hope imbued in a season anticipating Christmas.
